Chennai: Days after a 33-year-old pregnant woman gave birth to a stillborn baby delivered by the nurses in the Public Health Centre (PHC) at Chunambedu in Chengalpet district with directions from a doctor via video call, the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), sought a report from the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (DPH) of the incident.

The villagers had staged a protest outside the center, demanding action against the doctors and nurses for the alleged negligence.
After taking suo moto cognisance of the incident, the commission asked the DPH to submit a report within six weeks, reports the Hindu.
The patient went to the PHC with her husband on the morning of the day she was expected to deliver in this regard, where the nurses asked her to come after developing labour pain. However, Dr. R Balu, who was supposed to perform her delivery, was not present in the hospital.
The baby was reportedly in a breech position, and the nurses decided to normal delivery to avoid any further complications with the help of the doctor's instructions through video call. The nurses tried multiple times to pull the baby's head first as per the doctor's instruction but failed each time.
The mother's and baby's condition began worsening, following which she was taken to the Madurantakam Government hospital in an ambulance. She delivered a stillborn baby on the way to the hospital.
