18 Medical Device Firms Got Rs 133.95 Cr in Incentives Till FY2024-25: Govt Tells RS

New Delhi: A total of 18 domestic medical device manufacturers have received Rs 133.95 crore in incentives under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for medical devices up to FY2024-25, the Government informed the Rajya Sabha.
The disbursement spans three key states—Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Gujarat—and forms part of the government’s broader push to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports.
This was revealed in a written response by Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Anupriya Patel, to a question raised by Shri Milind Murli Deora during the Rajya Sabha session held on 22 July 2025.
Providing context on the financial and operational scope of the initiative, Patel noted:
"The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Promoting Domestic Manufacturing of Medical Devices has a five-year performance-linked incentive period, from the financial year (FY) 2022–2023 to FY2026–27. So far, incentive has been disbursed for the first three years, i.e., for the period up to FY2024–25. The total budgetary outlay (revised estimates) for the period up to FY2024–25 is Rs 154.63 crore."
According to official data, Karnataka leads with 8 manufacturers receiving Rs 49.37 crore, followed by Maharashtra, where 4 manufacturers were granted Rs 44.44 crore, and Gujarat, with 6 manufacturers receiving Rs 40.14 crore in incentives.
Additionally, another 13 domestic manufacturers are in various stages of project implementation in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana. These companies will become eligible for incentives upon completion of their projects and compliance with scheme criteria.
Despite the progress made under the PLI initiative, the government admitted that no formal research or study has been undertaken to determine the market share distribution between foreign and Indian-manufactured medical devices.
In response to another query, the Ministry further clarified that it does not maintain specific data on the total number of foreign-manufactured medical devices imported into the country over the past five years.
