"2800 Grade Pay Wale": Drug Inspector in Hooter Car Grabs SHO, Video Goes Viral
Amethi: A dramatic scene unfolded on the Munshiganj-Amethi road on Wednesday evening after a car fitted with a hooter and bearing a "Government of India" sticker was spotted driving erratically. When the police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, a Drug Inspector sped away toward Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, prompting a two-kilometre chase.
After being intercepted, the driver—identified as Kamlesh Mishra, a Drug Inspector—stepped out and began arguing with the officers. According to reports by Navbharat Times and Amar Ujala, Mishra, who appeared to be intoxicated, behaved aggressively and misbehaved with SHO Shivakant Tripathi. He reportedly grabbed the SHO by the collar and pushed him.
SHO Tripathi confirmed the events, stating, “The vehicle was being driven in an uncontrolled manner with a hooter blaring. We suspected something was wrong and tried to stop it. The driver identified himself as a drug inspector and tried to use his position to exert pressure. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. He has been taken into custody.”
The entire episode was captured on video by a bystander and quickly went viral on social media. The visuals shocked local residents, showing a public servant confronting the police in an allegedly drunken state.

The video was widely shared and several users had already begun reacting to the incident. Pharma Consultant Jaideep Gupta tweeted;
At the police station, Mishra continued his tirade, threatening on-duty personnel. As reported by Navbharat Times, he was heard saying, “Tum 2800 grade pay wale ho, main 5400 grade pay ka PCS adhikari hoon.” (“You’re in the 2800 grade pay scale; I’m a PCS officer with 5400 grade pay.”)
He allegedly went so far as to threaten the constables with false drug trafficking cases.
Following the incident, police conducted a medical test at the district hospital and collected his blood sample for alcohol testing. A three-member committee has been formed on the orders of District Magistrate Sanjay Chauhan to investigate the matter. The police confirmed that legal action would be taken based on the available video evidence and medical report.
Mishra is no stranger to controversy. Around a year ago, medical shop owners in Amethi accused him of illegal extortion. The dispute had escalated to the point where traders allegedly held him hostage, leading to a police case being registered from both sides.
As per Amar Ujala, police reiterated that “no one is above the law,” and the investigation is ongoing.
