53 Drug Samples Fail To Clear CDSCO Test, 1 Declared Misbranded
New Delhi: In its latest drug safety alert, the apex drug regulatory body, Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has flagged 53 medicine batches for failing to qualify for a random drug sample test for the month of July, while one drug sample has been declared misbranded.
These drugs samples which are declared not of standard quality include Cadila Pharmaceticals' Tinidazole Tablets I.P. 300 mg, Theon Pharmaceuticals' Fexofenadine hydrochloride tablets i.p., United Bioceuticals' Care Zinc Tablets (Zinc Sulphate Dispersible Tablets IP 20 mg), Navkar Lifesciences' Ofloxacin & Ornidazole Tablets IP and others.
This came after analysis and test were conducted by the CDSCO, Drugs Control Departments on 1337 samples. Out of this, 1283 samples were found of standard quality while 53 of them were declared as Not of Standard Quality (NSQ), while one drug was misbranded.
Further, the list contains one misbranded drug Balaji enterprise's Codine Phasphate & Chlorpheniramine Maleat Syrup.
A few of the reasons why the drug samples tested failed were the failure of the assay, failure of the dissolution test, failure of disintegration test, failure of sterility test failure of the sterility test.
The samples collected were tested in five laboratories, namely CDTL Hyderabad, CDL Kolkata, CDTL Mumbai, RDTL Guwahati, RDTL Chandigarh.
