Agitated Over Late Medicine Delivery, Man Fires Air Gun, Booked for Attempt to Murder

Mumbai: A dispute over delayed medicine delivery in Lower Parel escalated dramatically when a 35-year-old bank employee allegedly fired an air gun after and altercation with a delivery agent, leading police to book him for attempt to murder.
The accused, identified as Saurabh Kumar, is said to be suffering from insomnia. Officials stated that he had ordered medicines from a nearby chemist at around midnight on Friday. When the medicines arrived late in the early hours of Saturday, an argument broke out between Kumar and the delivery person.
According to investigators, Kumar refused to accept the medicines and locked the door of his flat. As the delivery agent continued to knock and ring the bell, Kumar grew angry and came out holding an air rifle.
Police reports mention that when the delivery agent was facing away from the flat door, Kumar pressed the trigger. “The complainant said he heard a loud sound and immediately ran,” an official noted. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The delivery agent then alerted the police control room, following which a team from N M Joshi Marg police station reached the spot. On inspection, police confirmed that the air gun was not loaded, but the trigger pull created a loud noise that caused alarm.
Based on the complaint, Kumar has been charged with attempt to murder under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and booked under provisions of the Arms Act. The weapon was seized, and a detailed probe has been initiated.
A senior officer told PTI, “Though the air rifle was empty, firing it caused panic and warranted immediate legal action.”
