Assam police dispose of 37000 bottles of contraband phensedyl cough syrup
Guwahati: The Drug Disposal Committee of the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has disposed of 37,000 bottles of contraband Phensedyl cough syrup. The disposal took place in the Panikhaiti area, located on the outskirts of Guwahati, at the M/s Fresh Air Waste Management Services Pvt. Ltd. facility.
Between March 2023 and November 2024, the Special Task Force of Assam Police, under the leadership of Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IGP (STF), seized narcotics worth approximately Rs 800 crore, apprehending 325 individuals.
"The Drugs Disposal Committee, chaired by Sudhakar Singh, SP (Zone-I), CID, Assam, and comprising representatives from the District Magistrate's office, the Joint Director of Health, and the Narcotics Control Bureau, has disposed of 37,000 bottles of contraband Phensedyl cough syrup, each containing 100 ml, totalling 3,700 litres. The total market value of these NDPS items is Rs 70 lakh," said Pranab Jyoti Goswami, CPRO of Assam Police.
