IPC Signs MoUs with Bihar, Maharashtra, Mizoram Pharmacy Councils to Boost Pharmacovigilance
New Delhi: The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) on Tuesday signed memoranda of understanding with the pharmacy councils of Bihar, Maharashtra and Mizoram to strengthen medicine safety, promote rational use of medicines and enhance pharmacovigilance activities across the states.
The agreements were signed at the IPC headquarters in Ghaziabad in the presence of senior officials and representatives of the participating organisations, according to a health ministry statement.
The collaborations aim to promote rational use of medicines, strengthen pharmacovigilance initiatives and improve patient safety systems in the respective states, the statement said.
Under the partnership, the organisations will work towards wider dissemination and adoption of the National Formulary of India (NFI) among registered pharmacists to ensure safe, effective and evidence-based use of medicines.
The IPC and the state pharmacy councils will also promote adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting and facilitate the establishment of ADR Monitoring Centres in coordination with the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), the statement said.
The collaboration also envisages organising training programmes, workshops and continuing education initiatives for pharmacists on rational drug use, pharmacovigilance and pharmacopoeial standards.
The IPC said the MoUs reflect a shared commitment towards strengthening healthcare systems and ensuring safer and more effective use of medicines through robust pharmacovigilance practices and enhanced professional capacity across the country.
The MoUs were signed by IPC Secretary-cum-Scientific Director Dr V Kalaiselvan with Bihar State Pharmacy Council President Dr Prakash Sinha, Mizoram State Pharmacy Council Vice President Dr H Lalhlenmawia and Maharashtra State Pharmacy Council President Atul Ahire.
Former NITI Aayog member Dr V K Paul, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s advisor Dr G N Singh and AIIMS Kalyani President Dr Y K Gupta were present on the occasion.
