Only Registered Pharmacists Can Be Registrar: Rajasthan Council's New Rule

Jaipur: In a major regulatory shift, the Rajasthan Pharmacy Council has decided that only registered pharmacists will now be eligible to hold the post of Registrar, effectively barring individuals from other paramedical or healthcare fields from being appointed to this position.
The new rule makes valid pharmacist registration mandatory for the Registrar’s post, aiming to ensure that the council’s top administrative role is handled solely by qualified pharmacy professionals.
The decision comes against the backdrop of ongoing objections and disputes over non-pharmacists being appointed to this sensitive position, and the council has now formally amended its rules to eliminate any ambiguity.
According to the updated provisions, the move is intended to strengthen transparency, improve professional accountability and ensure that policy decisions, licensing functions and administrative responsibilities within the Pharmacy Council remain in the hands of trained and duly registered pharmacists. Officials noted that questions had been repeatedly raised in the past regarding the appointment of individuals from non-pharmacy backgrounds, which had led to professional concerns within the sector.
