Pharma Firm Manager Allegedly Kidnapped at Gunpoint

New Delhi: A pharmaceutical company's operations manager escaped captivity after a Delhi businessman and his associates allegedly abducted him at gunpoint over unpaid dues of Rs 85 lakh.
The group allegedly took him to a hideout in New Chandigarh, assaulted him and demanded payment from his employer.
According to a recent media report in Hindustan Times, Phase-1 police registered a case against Binod Kumar Nigam, who operates Nigam Global Medi Sciences in Delhi’s Shastri Nagar, and his alleged associates Amit, Maya, Vicky and three to four unidentified individuals. The action followed a complaint from Dilpreet Singh, owner of Elfin Drugs Pvt Ltd in Industrial Area Phase 8B.
Dilpreet stated in his complaint that Nigam had supplied raw materials to the firm and was seeking approximately ₹85 lakh in outstanding payments. Nigam allegedly visited the company’s office with his associates on October 5. Operations manager Kulbir Singh arrived at around 7.45 pm while Nigam was speaking to Dilpreet over the phone.
The accused allegedly stopped Kulbir, compelled him to enter a car at gunpoint and drove him to an undisclosed premises in New Chandigarh. He was allegedly detained and beaten there.
While holding Kulbir, the group allegedly contacted Dilpreet through a WhatsApp call. Dilpreet reportedly heard the accused shouting and Kulbir crying for help. They also allegedly shared an image of a bank cheque through WhatsApp and insisted that the pending amount be paid immediately to secure the manager’s release.
Kulbir subsequently escaped when the alleged captors’ attention was diverted and reached safety.
HT reported that assistant sub-inspector Tarsem Singh investigated Dilpreet’s complaint and verified the allegations. Police booked the accused under Sections 140(1), 351(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
