Zydus Sunshine Lifesciences to Invest Over USD 20 Million in Sri Lanka Pharma Manufacturing Facility

New Delhi: Zydus Sunshine Lifesciences (Pvt) Ltd, a proposed joint venture between Zydus Lifesciences Limited (Zydus) and Sunshine Healthcare, part of Sunshine Holdings PLC, has signed an agreement with the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka to establish a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in the BOI zone in Horana, Sri Lanka.
The agreement was signed on October 13, 2026. The two companies had announced the formation of the joint venture on June 26, 2026.
The project envisages a phased investment of more than USD 20 million. The manufacturing facility will be developed on a site spanning nearly four acres, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2028, subject to project timelines and the necessary regulatory approvals.
In the first phase, the facility will manufacture oral solid dosage forms for the Sri Lankan market. The investment is expected to strengthen Zydus' international presence and support its efforts to expand access to quality medicines.
Local manufacturing is also expected to enhance the resilience of Sri Lanka's pharmaceutical supply chain and improve the availability of essential medicines in the country.
