Vitamin D deficiency Linked to Depression Through Neurodevelopmental Pathways: Study

Findings from a new study have revealed that vitamin D influences depression risk by affecting early neurodevelopmental processes, highlighting shared biological mechanisms between vitamin D deficiency and depressive disorders. The study explored genetic and molecular pathways connecting vitamin D metabolism with brain development, revealing that several genes involved in neurodevelopment are also associated with susceptibility to depressive disorders. These findings suggest that vitamin D’s impact on mental health extends beyond its traditional roles in bone and immune function, potentially shaping brain circuits that influence mood regulation.
