Gynaecologist-Politician Gottipati Lakshmi leaves election campaign, Performs C-section
Andhra Pradesh: Doctor-turned-politician Dr Gottipati Lakshmi showcased her commitment to her professional responsibilities despite her political campaign schedule when she stepped in to deliver a baby amid a challenging situation.
Dr Lakshmi is a practising gynaecologist and the owner of a hospital. She is contesting on a TDP ticket from the Darsi assembly seat.
As per a recent media report by the India Times, the doctor was in Kurichedu village campaigning when she received an urgent call from a local hospital. The call informed her of a pregnant woman experiencing complications as she approached labor. She promptly left her campaign to rush to the hospital. Upon examination, she discovered that the woman, Venkata Ramana from Abbayipalem village, had completely drained amniotic fluid. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, she decided the only way to save the mother and child was to perform a C-section.
With the help of the medical staff, Dr Lakshmi successfully delivered a healthy baby boy. Both the mother and the newborn are reported to be in good health. Dr Lakshmi, who oversees around 100 childbirths monthly, stated that Thursday's case was one of the most complicated she had ever encountered in her medical career, reports the Daily.
Dr Gottipati Lakshmi is an MS OBG and Fellow in ICOG. Expressing her happiness over the successful delivery of the baby, she stated, "Nothing in this world brings me more joy than welcoming a life onto this Earth. Babies and smiles motivate me to keep going. It was a good day."
Telugu Desam Party also shared snippets of the incident. While congratulating the doctor, the party posted on its social media stating, "There are leaders who are giving life to Telugu states. The candidate of Telugu Desam who is campaigning for the election of Darsi constituency, Dr Gottipati Lakshmi showed humanity. A cesarean section was performed on a pregnant woman in an emergency situation and the mother and child were saved."
