Bihar announces free bus travel for aspirants appearing NEET 2026 re-exam
Bihar: Following the recent National Eligibility and Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) examination paper leak controversy, Bihar has announced relief for candidates preparing to appear for the re-exam.
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary stated that students appearing for the NEET re-examination on June 21 will be allowed to travel free of cost on all government buses across the state.
This announcement comes at a time when students and parents across India are facing uncertainty, stress, and travel-related concerns following the cancellation of the NEET examination scheduled for May 3.
Chaudhary shared a post on 'X' stating, "For the convenience of all candidates appearing for the NEET examination, travel will be free on all government buses across the state of Bihar."
The chief minister did not mention whether the free bus travel facility will be available only on the examination day or for the period up to the test day.
The district administrations, all temples and non-governmental organisations are requested to cooperate with the authorities in arranging drinking water and 'sattu', a type of flour made up of dry-roasted and ground pulses and cereals, for examinees and their parents at bus stands, railway stations, and other major locations, the CM said.
He requested that arrangements be made for "drinking water, Sattu, etc." for students and parents at railway stations, bus stands, and other major public places.
This move has garnered attention online, particularly because, following the cancellation of the nationwide examination due to an alleged paper leak, many NEET candidates will once again have to travel long distances.
Prior to the cancellation of the examination, more than 2.2 million candidates in India and abroad had registered for NEET-UG 2026. Consequently, the re-examination for NEET-UG 2026 has now been scheduled for June 21, amidst strict security arrangements.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported that, observing that the National Testing Agency (NTA) appears to have failed to learn from past controversies, the Supreme Court issued notice to the NTA and the Ministry of Education.
The bench was hearing petitions seeking the replacement of NTA with a new body constituted by an Act of Parliament amid NEET UG 2026 paper leak row and implementation of reforms recommended by the Radhakrishnan Committee after the NEET 2024 paper leak controversy.
