Bihar: Missing NEET aspirant found dead in well, family links death to exam stress, probe on

Patna: In an unfortunate incident, a 20-year-old NEET aspirant who had been missing for three days was found dead in a well near her home in Bihar's Kalyanchak village.

The student had appeared for the NEET examination twice and hoped to become a doctor, according to her family. Her body was recovered by the police, who sent it for postmortem.

Her father alleged that she was suffering from mental stress following the disruption of the NEET UG 2026 examination process and the paper leak controversy. However, the police have not confirmed this claim.

The incident took place when she left home around 4 a.m. on July 5 to relieve herself but did not return. After an extensive search, a missing person report was filed at the Mufussil police station.

On Tuesday, local residents noticed a body inside a well located near the family’s house and informed the police. With the help of villagers, police recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.

Mufussil Police Station Officer Vipin Kumar Singh confirmed that a missing person report had already been registered. While the family suspected that the student jumped into the well, the actual cause of death will only be clear after the release of the post-mortem report and police investigation.

To find out the exact reason, the police are questioning people nearby and investigating all aspects of the scene.

Police officials informed Amarujala that a clear conclusion regarding the cause of death will emerge only after the post-mortem report and when the investigation is complete.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a 26-year-old medico from the Department of Anaesthesia at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) allegedly committed suicide after administering an overdose of anaesthesia medication to himself. His body was found inside his room at the university's Sushrut Hostel, located on the sixth floor.
