Bihar to Get 22 New Medical Colleges
Bihar- In the recently held Budget Session 2025, Health Minister Mangal Pandey during his speech informed that Bihar will soon get 22 new medical colleges in the coming years.
These 22 new medical colleges will be built in 10 other districts. These include government medical colleges in Sitamarhi, Jhanjharpur, Siwan, Buxar, Jamui, Begusarai, Vaishali, Munger, Supaul and Ara. At the same time, there is a plan to build a new medical college in Motihari, Gopalganj and Saharsa. On this, the proposal for medical colleges in these districts has also been approved and their construction will start soon.
According to Jagran Media News report, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also announced the establishment of a medical college hospital in Banka, Araria, Khagaria, Aurangabad, Kaimur, Nawada and Jehanabad during his Pragati Yatra. Administrative approval has been received on this and construction will start next year. With this, the number of government medical college hospitals will increase to 34.
Moreover, Trauma centres will also be set up in Vikram, Mohania and Karhara. In this regard, Minister Mangal Pandey said that to provide timely transport to the injured in accidents on national highways, trauma centres will be set up on the highways at Vikram in Patna, Mohania in Kaimur and Karhara in Aurangabad.
Currently, there are a total of 12 government medical colleges and 9 private medical college hospitals in Bihar.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that 1,500 new hospitals would be established in rural areas across the state during the financial year 2025-26. Pandey while replying to a debate on the budgetary demand of the Health Department in the House for the financial year 2025-26, said that Nitish-led NDA government had decided to establish seven new Medical Colleges and Hospitals in Bihar. One Medical College and Hospital each would be opened in seven districts of the state, he added.
