Dumraon medical college to start with 100 MBBS seats, 500-bed hospital planned

Bihar: In a major step towards advanced medical treatment in Bihar, a state-of-the-art medical college and hospital is soon to be established in Dumraon.
With this, people will no longer need to travel to Patna or Varanasi for medical care.
As per a recent TOI report, the hospital will have 500 beds, and the medical college will admit a total of 100 MBBS students every year. The project is being implemented by the Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (BMSICL) and is progressing rapidly. It is planned to be completed by March 2026.
The medical college and hospital are being constructed on 25.38 acres of land at Haryana Farm in Dumraon at an estimated cost of Rs 515 crore. Once completed, the facility is expected to significantly strengthen tertiary healthcare services in western Bihar.
The hospital will have a regular OPD system, a modern emergency department, intensive care units, and advanced diagnostic facilities. Health officials believe this will significantly reduce referrals to Patna and Varanasi.
According to the TOI Media news report, an official associated with the project said that this hospital will be a game-changer for the Shahabad region. It will reduce the burden on major hospitals in Patna and provide people with access to quality treatment closer to home. The hospital is located in a strategic location, approximately 5-6 km from Dumraon railway station. Being situated on the outskirts of the city will help patients and ambulances avoid city traffic congestion.
Furthermore, a senior district official stated that good road connectivity is crucial for any major healthcare facility. The approved road project will ensure the smooth movement of patients and emergency vehicles. Meanwhile, preliminary work on the road project has already begun.
Moreover, district BJP president Omprakash Bhuvan said that people from Buxar, Ara, Rohtas and surrounding districts will benefit directly, as they will no longer have to travel long distances for specialised treatment.
Additionally, Pradeep Kumar Jaiswal, President of the Dumraon Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said that once operational, the Dumraon Medical College and Hospital is expected to become a major healthcare hub for the Shahabad region.
