NEET aspirant dies of sleeping pill overdose in Patna

dead
Patna: In a tragic incident, an 18-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly committed suicide by consuming a large quantity of sleeping pills and passed away after being in a coma for nearly a week.
She had been undergoing treatment since January 6.
The case came to light after the deceased student's parents alleged that she had been assaulted and sexually abused. However, the police said that medical examinations and CCTV footage from the hostel have not supported these claims.

Similarly, the attending doctors also said the same thing. They denied any signs of sexual assault and said that she had consumed a large quantity of sleeping pills and was suffering from typhoid.
Although it is not yet confirmed whether the student committed suicide or foul play was involved, the police stated that her cellphone search history showed suicide-related queries. They are currently investigating the case.
As per a TOI media report, the incident took place while she was staying in a girls' hostel in Patna. The police further stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a 22-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly died by suicide in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, using his father's licensed firearm. The preliminary probe suggested prolonged mental health issues and academic pressure as possible contributing factors. According to family members, the aspirant had been suffering from mental health issues for the last eight months and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Raipur.
Relatives also told police that he had been preparing for the medical entrance exam (NEET) for the past two years and they were planning to take him to Bhopal for college admission in the coming days, he said.
