Patna NEET aspirant death case: Women's commission takes suo motu cognizance, court denies bail to hostel owner
Patna: A Patna court has rejected the bail application of the hostel owner accused in the death of a teenage student who was preparing for the NEET.
Meanwhile, investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the case.
On Thursday, First Class Judicial Magistrate Kumari Pinky Priyanka of the Patna Civil Court refused to grant regular bail to the hostel owner.Therefore, the owner will currently be kept in judicial custody. This decision has been welcomed by the student's family, who had been demanding a full investigation.
According to a PatnaPress Media news report, ma was arrested based on a complaint filed by the deceased's father and has been in custody since January 15. However, so far, he is the only one who has been arrested.
Officials stated that the next crucial step would be to complete the investigation and file the charge sheet, which will determine whether further arrests will be made or additional charges will be filed. Currently, the court's refusal to grant bail indicates that the matter is being taken seriously and the legal process is underway.
Meanwhile, the Bihar State Women's Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter. On Wednesday, January 21, Chairperson Professor Apsara visited the deceased's hometown, Jehanabad, to meet with the family and assess the situation on the ground.
According to an IANS, Professor Apsara has written to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Patna, demanding immediate action against the culprits and requesting that a detailed investigation report be submitted to the commission. She said that the commission is closely monitoring the matter and assured that no guilty person will be spared.
In the meantime, while addressing the media, ADG (CID) Parasnath said, “This entire matter is under investigation. It would not be appropriate to make any detailed information public at this stage”.
“Most of the testing process is expected to be completed within the next three to four days. DNA reports may take five to six days, depending on available resources”, he added.
The case is related to an 18-year-old NEET aspirant, who allegedly committed suicide by consuming a large quantity of sleeping pills and passed away after being in a coma for nearly a week. She had been undergoing treatment since January 6.
In this regard, Medical Dialogues had reported recently that the probing Special Investigation Team (SIT) had revealed that she had allegedly consumed a large quantity of antidepressant pills before being found unconscious in her hostel room.
The SIT has also recovered the deceased's personal diary from her hostel room in Patna, which has provided investigators with new insights into the intense emotional and psychological pressures she was under in the months leading up to the death.
