Class 12 pass-out arrested in Gurugram for running illegal clinic, providing MTP kits

Gurugram: A Class 12 pass-out was arrested by the Gurugram Police on Monday for allegedly posing as a doctor and conducting illegal abortions at an unregistered clinic without a valid medical degree, officials said.
A medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) kit, a large quantity of pharmaceutical drugs and medical equipment have been recovered from the accused, they said.
The accused was identified as a 27-year-old originally from West Bengal’s Malda district and residing at Ghata village in Gurugram, who was allegedly running an unregistered clinic named “Kamal Clinic”.
Based on a tip-off, a pregnant woman was sent to the clinic as a decoy customer. The accused charged Rs 1,200 for performing an abortion and provided her with an MTP kit, explaining how to use it.
According to police, the Gurugram nodal officer under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, lodged a complaint at the Sector-65 police station on Sunday, stating that secret information had been received that the accused was running a clinic without possessing any valid medical degree, news agency PTI reported.
Subsequently, on receiving the pre-arranged signal from the decoy customer, a police team conducted a raid at the clinic and apprehended the accused.
During interrogation, the accused admitted that he had studied up to Class 12 and did not possess any recognised medical degree. His clinic was also not registered under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act, reports PTI.
He failed to produce any patient records or documents relating to purchase, sale, or distribution of medicines, police said.
Accordingly, a case was registered against him at Sector-65 police station, and he was arrested.
Police identified the accused as a 27-year-old, originally from West Bengal’s Malda district, and residing at Ghata village in Gurugram. “We are questioning the accused and further investigation is underway,” a senior police officer said.
