research
Bhopal- In a major development, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved 14 research projects of Gandhi Medical College (GMC), Bhopal students in the last two years.
Last year, i.e. in 2024, a total of 20 MBBS students participated in the ICMR-Short Term Scholarship (STS) program, out of which eight students' projects were selected. Similarly, in April 2025, 30 students participated, out of which six projects got approval from ICMR.
The medical research branch of GMC is constantly striving to promote the research of the institute and encourage students. As a result, the participation of MBBS students in research activities is constantly increasing.
According to the Free Press Journal media news report, the Madhya Pradesh Medical Teachers Association has played an important role in the research work of MBBS students. A cell has been formed at the student level to promote research in GMC.
In this regard, GMC Dean Dr Kavita N Singh said, GMC pays special attention to the research of students. The increasing interest and readiness of students towards research will further strengthen the image of the institute.
The Indian Council of Medical Research is considered to be India's apex body for formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research and is one of the oldest and largest medical research bodies in the world.
ICMR is funded by the Government of India through the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In 2007, the organisation established the Clinical Trial Registry – India, which is India's national registry for clinical trials.
