Dr Vinky Rughwani nominated to NMC Advisory Board
Nagpur: In a significant development, renowned paediatrician Dr Vinky Rughwani has been nominated to the National Medical Commission (NMC), the top governing body for doctors and medical professionals in modern medicine across India. Dr Rughwani has been appointed as a member of the Medical Advisory Council of the NMC, a role that further strengthens his contributions to the healthcare sector.
Currently serving as the administrator of the Maharashtra Medical Council, Dr Rughwani has held various leadership positions throughout his career. Notably, he served as the vice-president of the Maharashtra Medical Council from 2017 to 2022, demonstrating his long-standing commitment to the medical community.
Talking to Medical Dialogues, he stated, “I have been working as a part of Maharashtra Medical council and we have introduced many new policies to improve the health care sector. We have introduced complete digitalisation of the registration process. We have also come up with an effective online platform for patients to post their feedback or to register their complaints efficiently. Being a representative of my state, the good practices that we initiated in my state could be adopted on a national level.”
“On the light of the recent incident of assault on a resident doctor in West Bengal, we are more concerned about the safety of the resident doctors. I will raise issues regarding the resident doctors considering their safety and working hours infront of the national Medical Commission,” he added.
Dr Rughwani is an eminent paediatrician from Nagpur who has been working on the prevention and welfare of Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell patients for the last 25 years and has worked as the Vice-President of the Maharashtra Medical Council for the last 5 years. Dr Rughwani has been assigned additional responsibilities for a period of one year or until the MMC elections take place. He will also carry out his duties as the administrator until a new council is established, following the disbandment of the 18-member MMC committee in 2022.
He is the President of the Thalassemia Society of Central India (an Organisation working for the welfare of Thalassemia & Sickle Cell patients and the prevention of this Illness in Central India) and the Director of the Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Centre, Nagpur (a Centre providing free treatment to Thalassemia and Sickle Cell patients). Dr Rughwani's appointment is expected to bring valuable insights and expertise to the National Medical Commission as it continues to shape the future of healthcare policies and practices in India.
