Maha: Doctor kidnapped, threatened for filing extortion case against ex-Deputy sarpanch
Pune: In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old doctor was abducted and harassed in a hotel after he lodged a complaint against the Deputy Panchayat for allegedly threatening the medical practitioner and asking for extortion money.
The rural police have already booked the former Deputy Sarpanch of Sikharpur along with three others for kidnapping the doctor. According to a recent media report, the doctor has been identified as a resident of Mallu Mala in the Shikarpur area and he renders his service in the village hospital. He is a native of the Dhanora area of Umarlhed taluka, Yavatmal.
On the night of November 2, when the doctor left the hospital after his duty and was returning to his home, a group of men forcibly kidnapped him and took him to the house of the retired Gram Panchayat official. The brother of the accused and a few other men were also present in the house. All of them allegedly threatened the doctor for hours after which he was taken to a premier hotel near Pune station.
The accused allegedly harassed and threatened him while he was held captive there for the night. When the captors fell asleep, the doctor managed to make a call to the investigating officer API Vairagkar and the doctor was finally rescued.

The doctor was kidnapped in wake of a complaint moved by him against the accused. In his complaint, the doctor alleged that the accused have been demanding extortion money from him. The doctor sought help from police alleging that the former deputy Panchayat was threatening him asking for extortion money.
The doctor in his complaint elaborated that the accused approached him and met him on July 24 on the bridge built across the Velu river along Pune-Ahmednagar road. The accused allegedly told the doctor that if he wanted to continue working on the village hospital and maintain all the operation of the facility, he needed to pay Rs 25000 to him per month.
