Palghar: A doctor, who worked in various government departments for around 20 years and happened to be former Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation was arrested for allegedly possessing a fake MBBS degree.
The man allegedly practiced as a doctor without valid permits in Virar in Palghar district and was also medical officer at the local civic body for some time, a police official was quoted saying by PTI.
The police have been receiving complaints of the doctor's fake degree certificates since the past few months. On Tuesday morning, the doctor was picked up from his home.
The doctor who operates clinics in Virar and Nalasopara, was held under IPC sections and provisions of Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act for cheating and other offences on the complaint of the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation, he said.
The 45-year old doctor who runs two private hospitals in Nalasopara and Virar has been remanded to police custody till Friday by the Vasai court.

As per a recent media report in Times of India, the doctor who worked in various government departments for around 20 years, had submitted fake MBBS certificates to seek the government job. He was the chief medical officer until 2013, when he was sacked following complaints of sexual harassment by his female colleagues.
Incidentally, he also served as medical officer of VVMC for some time, the Virar police station official said.
