Speaking to The Times of India, Krishna Giri, Mukhani outpost in-charge, said, "Prima facie, it seems to be a case of death due to extreme cold. We are witnessing freezing temperatures here, particularly at night. The autopsy report is yet to come and the exact cause of death will be known only after that. CCTV footage of the area is being scanned. Initial investigation suggests there was no foul play. His family is yet to file a formal complaint and we will take appropriate steps once we get one."
The officer added that when the police reached the spot of incident in the Resham Bagh area, they saw a parked two wheeler and found the teenager in drain. He said, "They found a phone on him and informed his parents."
The father of the victim, who works as a coordinator at Cluster Resource Centre in Betalghat said, "He was the eldest of my two sons. He had left the house at night without informing us. The next morning we looked for him everywhere and then received a call that he had been found dead in a drain."
