Pune's medical college MBBS student allegedly jumps to death from residential building, exam stress suspected
Pune: In an unfortunate incident, a 21-year-old second-year MBBS student studying at Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College in Katraj died after allegedly jumping from the ninth floor of a multi-storied residential building in the Katraj area.
The police, during the investigation, found no suicide note at the scene; however, the student's brother claimed that exam stress could be the reason for her sister to take the extreme step, as per a PTI report.
The deceased student, originally from Hyderabad in Telangana, had moved to Pune for her medical education and was staying at an upscale housing society in Katraj with her brother, a medical graduate. They were staying together in a rented room at the private hostel for the last two years.
As per a latest media report by ETV Bharat, the incident took place on Wednesday around 12 noon when she had gone to the terrace of the building and reportedly jumped from the ninth floor of the building in the parking area. The locals, after noticing the incident, alerted the police.
Commenting on this, Senior Inspector Sudarshan Gaikwad of the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station told TOI, "We learnt during investigation that no one was on the terrace at the time of the incident. Later in the day, her brother and friends told us that she was stressed because of the ongoing annual examinations."
Gaikwad further said, "We searched her room, but did not find any suicide note. We have seized her laptop and cellphone for probe. An accidental death report was registered after the autopsy at Sassoon General Hospital."
Her brother told police that his sister did not have a quarrel or strained relations with any person. Her examinations were underway, and she might have been under stress due to it, he said.
Meanwhile, the police are currently investigating the matter to find out whether academic pressure or some other underlying cause was responsible for her death.
