Renowned Cardiologist Dr Gurpreet Singh Wander takes charge as DMCH Principal
Ludhiana: In a recent development, renowned cardiologist Dr Gurpreet Singh Wander has been appointed as the Principal at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Dr Wander, with a longstanding association with the institute dating back to 1988, previously served as the Vice-Principal.
His appointment to the position of Principal follows the resignation of Dr Sandeep Puri last month. Dr Wander, concurrently, retains his responsibilities as the Chairman of the Board of Management at Baba Farid University of Health Science.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reporetd that days after the announcement of the name of cardiologist Dr Gurpreet Singh Wander as the new Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit who is the chancellor of the university has refused to approve the AAP government's pick. Instead, he has asked the state government to send a list of three names for the post.
A distinguished professional, Dr Wander earned his MBBS from Rajindra Medical College, Patiala, in 1981. Furthering his education, he completed DM and MD in cardiology from PGIMER in 1985. Joining DMCH in 1988 as a lecturer in the cardiology unit, he has played a pivotal role in the medical community. Additionally, Dr Wander is the founder of the Hero Heart Institute at DMC, reports Times of India. His extensive experience and contributions to the field position Dr Gurpreet Singh Wander as a valuable leader for DMCH, bringing a wealth of medical expertise to the role of Principal.
In July 2023, he was appointed as the chairman of the board of management of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot by the Punjab Government under Section 27(2) of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Act, 1998. Wander has published 120 papers, 45 of them in foreign journals of repute like The Lancet, Nature, Journal of Genetics, Journal of American College of Cardiology, The American Journal of Cardiology, British Heart Journal and Japanese Heart Journal.
He has presented 115 papers at national and international conferences. He had conducted a few animal experiment studies on atherogenicity of oxidized cholesterol and a British collaborative study on coronary heart disease.
