Top authorities appointed at GMC Patiala, Dr Rajan Singla selected as new Principal
Punjab: In order to ensure transparent and efficient management of the Government Medical College and Hospital of Patiala, the authorities have made some significant changes in the medical college's administration. Along with appointing a new principal for the college, authorities have also changed the previous vice-principal and medical superintendent of the institution.
The Professor of the Anatomy Department Dr Rajan Singla has been appointed as the new Principal of the college, while the Professor of Medicine Department, Raminder Pal Singh Sibia has been selected as vice-principal and Dr Harnam Singh Lekhi has been designated as Medical Superintendent of GMC Patiala.
This came following the visit of Medical Education and Research Minister Mr. OP Soni who during his visit last week found the necessity to initiate some changes in the organizational structure of the Government Medical College and hospital of Patiala.
According to a recent media report, Secretary DK Tiwari on Saturday issued three separate orders and removed DR. Rajinder Singh of the neurology department from the position of principal, Dr. Parmod Kumar of the anesthesia department from the post of vice-principal, and Dr. paras Pandave of the surgery department from the position of medical superintendent.
Divulging more about the changes were made in the organizational structure of Government Medical College and Hospital, Patiala, Medical Education and Research Minister Mr. O.P. Soni said that " these changes were made to invigorate the work of the medical college and hospital and it will further energize the staff to work with more zeal. He said during his last visit to GMC Patiala he felt the need to change the administrational structure to make the working of college more efficient."
Mr. Soni paid a visit after receiving news of the high COVID mortality rate and alleged mismanagement of the facility. He told Hindustan Times that the hospital administration had to suffer due to the lack of collaboration and cooperation between those three main administrative heads hence the authorities decided to change them accordingly. "They lacked coordination as they were not on good terms with one another. We also found dereliction of duties on their part. We want to improve patient care and the health care system. The decision was taken after discussions," the minister said.
The minister further told Hindustan Times that "We have removed principal, vice-principal and medical superintendent of GMC Patiala and Rajindra Hospital over their lackadaisical attitude towards duty, low performance and high death rate of Covid-19 patients at the hospital. We have also received several complaints and negative feedback from the public and their colleagues during my visit on September 9."
