Nurse performs C-Section in absence of duty doctor, baby dies, kin seek action against doctor for neglecting duties
Adilabad: A nurse at the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Chennur in Mancherial district on Sunday allegedly performed Cesarean operation (C-Section) on a pregnant woman in the absence of a duty doctor, resulting in the death of the baby.
As per a recent media report in The New Indian Express, the aggrieved family members blamed the absence of the duty doctor for the death of their baby and sought strict against the doctor for neglecting his duties.
Earlier this month, a similar incident had taken place in Chennai after a doctor had instructed the nurses via video call to perform the delivery in the Public Health Centre (PHC) at Chunambedu in Chengalpet district.
The recent case concerned a pregnant lady identified as S Rani who was brought to the health center by her husband and other family members after she experienced labour pain on Saturday night.
As per S Harikrishna, the patient's husband, as the doctor was not available, the duty nurse checked the patient and told that she would have a normal delivery. The nurse allegedly asked them to wait till the labour pains increase.
However, hours later, the patient's health condition deteriorated following which the nurse performed a Cesarean operation since the duty doctor was not available. However, the operation was unsuccessful and the baby died during the process.
"In the morning my wife's condition turned critical, following which the nurse performed Cesarean operation. She said that baby's heart beat was not good and later she informed us that the baby had died," Harikrishna told The New Indian Express.
Soon the police were alerted about the commotion who visited the hospital and enquired about the incident.
