IndiGo Meltdown delays last rites: Medico's body stuck in Delhi for 3 days, family in agony

Agartala: The mortal remains of a 23-year-old MBBS medico from a private hospital in Lucknow, originally from Ramnagar, have been stuck in a Delhi mortuary for three days due to widespread disruptions caused by the ongoing IndiGo Airlines meltdown.

The intern, who died in a road accident on the night of December 3, has still not received his last rites, leaving his family in deep distress as they wait to bid him a final farewell.

Medical Dialogues had reported that 4 MBBS students from Venkateshwar University died in a fatal car crash in Uttar Pradesh. They were killed on the spot after their speeding car crashed into a parked DCM (truck) on the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha. The impact of the collision was so intense that the car was completely mangled, leaving no chance of survival for the occupants.

After the autopsy, the intern’s body was handed over to his family for transportation to Agartala for the last rites. However, the sudden cancellation of flights by IndiGo led to a frustrating cycle of returning the body to the mortuary and booking hotel accommodations, while scouting for alternative options.

The medico's mother told TOI, "My family was repeatedly promised about flights, only to discover they had been cancelled at the last moment, and had to navigate back and forth between the mortuary, hotel & airport. My son was nearing the completion of his MBBS internship at Venkateshwar Medical University, with just three months left."

A few days ago, an orthopaedic specialist from Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) narrowly escaped death after his car caught fire. Dr Saurav Kumar, who was about to drive home toward Boring Road, suddenly smelled something unusual just after switching on his car's engine. He then got out of the vehicle, and within minutes, the car burst into flames.
