Orai's Medical College MBBS interns, BSc Nursing Students clash in emergency dept, 5-member panel to probe

As an interim measure, the college authorities have kept four students, including three BSc Nursing students and one MBBS intern, away from training activities from September 22 to 28.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing students from the two groups allegedly punching and fighting each other in the emergency department following a dispute that reportedly began during clinical duty.

According to ETV Bharat report, the incident took place on Tuesday morning following a dispute between the two groups. According to allegations, around 10 MBBS interns assaulted two BSc Nursing students while they were on duty in the emergency department. Both students reportedly sustained injuries.

Following the incident, around 300 nursing students reached the emergency department and raised slogans in protest. They also reportedly stopped work for some time and demanded strict action against those responsible.

In an attempt to calm the protesting students, college officials reached the emergency department after receiving information about the incident. However, the nursing students alleged that the dispute started on Monday when a student had an argument with an MBBS intern. They alleged that the intern's associates later assaulted the two nursing students while they were on duty in the emergency department.

Meanwhile, the protesting students also raised concerns about their working conditions. They alleged that they are sometimes made to work for nearly 20 hours and claimed that doctors behave inappropriately with them.

To investigate the incident and find out the role of those involved, the medical college has formed a five-member committee headed by Dr Prem Singh, Head of the Department of Medicine. The committee will submit its report within two days.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Medical College nodal officer Sunil Kumar said further action would be taken based on the facts established by the inquiry.
