WB FMGs await internship months after clearing screening test, seek CM Banerjee's intervention

Kolkata: Highlighting that the foreign medical graduates in West Bengal are still awaiting internship enrolment despite clearing the screening test in June 2025, an association representing FMGs has sought the intervention of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and West Bengal Health and Family Welfare Department in this regard.
These medical graduates from abroad cleared the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) i.e. the screening test in June 2025. However, they are still awating to be enrolled in the internship programme.
Highlighting the issue on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), All FMGs Association (AFA) mentioned in a post, "Hello @NMC_BHARAT, I know you are seeing this, please look at the healthcare system you have built. FMGs who passed the FMGE in June 2025 in West Bengal are still waiting for internships. We have been protesting again and again. State Medical Councils say they don’t have enough seats. @NMC_BHARAT, why can’t internship seats for FMGs be increased from 7.5% to 20% in medical colleges? Most states don’t even pay stipends; at the very least, FMGs should be allowed to save their time and contribute to healthcare. This is the bare minimum a Medical Council should ensure. MamataOfficial wbdhfw , please take rapid action on this."

In one video, one of the FMGs, who went to submit their representation before the West Bengal Health Department, said, "We came to the Swasthya Bhawan today to submit deputation. We submitted it to the ADME and DME for our internship. We cleared the internship [exam] in July 2025. This is January, yet till now any notification or any other update has not been released for us."
Pointing out that the FMGE for December 2025 has also been conducted, the student stated that FMGs for six month timeline are still waiting. "That is why we have submitted the deputation today. But they have not provided any clarification on when it will happen. They have been telling us that it is not happening because of Finance Department. Are we responsible for that? We want that the notification is released at the earliest. Out future is hanging in the balance right now."
