Tamil Nadu: Doctor posted at PHC commits suicide
Madurai: A 27-year-old doctor, Dr Arun Prakash, posted at a Primary Health Centre located in the district Koodakovil committed suicide on Wednesday by injecting himself with poison. The doctor was taken to a private medical college hospital nearby, Velammal Medical College Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
A co-worker (staff nurse) found him unconscious at around 4 pm in his room and informed the authorities immediately. Within no time he was rushed for treatment to Velammal Medical College Hospital but unfortunately his life could not be saved.
Dr Prakash was the son of Dr Sankaramahalingam, a retired professor at the department of surgery, Madurai Medical College. Dr Prakash was working in the primary health centre for the past few months, reported TOI.
The police have recovered the poisonous substance with which he allegedly injected himself. The investigations are still in progress.
While the exact reason for the suicide is still under investigation, the suspected reason for the suicide attempt is identified to be differences of opinion with his family over higher studies. Police said he had been seen stressed out for the last few days.
