Union Cabinet approves merger of National Institute of Miners' Health with ICMR NIOH

New Delhi, Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the merger of National Institute of Miners’ Health (NIMH) with Indian Council of Medical Research - National Institute of Occupational Health (ICMR-NIOH).
Briefing the decisions, Union I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Cabinet approved the dissolving of NIMH, the autonomous institute under Ministry of Mines, and merge with ICMR- NIOH, Ahmedabad, under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

"The merger with all assets and liabilities and absorb all the employees of NIMH in NIOH in the similar post/pay scale as the case may be and their pay be protected", he said.
NIMH, ICMR, NIOH, MOM, and department of Health Research (DHR) and MoH&FW will take actions required for effecting dissolution and merger, amalgamation of NIMH with NIOH.

According to the government, the merger/ amalgamation of NIMH with NIOH will prove beneficial to both the institute in terms of enhanced expertise in the field of occupational health besides the efficient management of public money.
