Chhattisgarh CM seeks All India Institute of Ayurveda to boost AYUSH sector

New Delhi: Seeking to position Chhattisgarh as a hub for Ayurveda education, research and specialised healthcare, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has urged the Centre to establish an All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in the state. 

The proposal was raised during a meeting with Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah in New Delhi. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma was also present during the discussions. Among the key proposals placed before the Union Minister was the establishment of an AIIA in Chhattisgarh, reports The New Indian Express. 

Presenting the state's case, Sai highlighted the role of the existing AIIAs in New Delhi and Goa, saying they have emerged as centres of excellence by combining traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern medical science. According to him, these institutions have contributed to improving healthcare delivery while supporting medical education and research. 

The Chief Minister said Chhattisgarh possesses significant potential for advancing Ayurveda because of its extensive forest cover, rich biodiversity and availability of medicinal plants. He also referred to the traditional healing knowledge preserved by tribal communities, describing it as an important resource that could support future research and academic activities.

According to the chief minister, an AIIA in Chhattisgarh would provide advanced healthcare services to residents while creating opportunities for higher education and research. He added that the institute could serve the wider central Indian region by attracting patients, students and researchers from neighbouring states, reports TNIE.

Referring to the Union Budget announcement regarding the establishment of three new All India Institutes of Ayurveda across the country, the Chief Minister requested that one of the proposed institutes be allotted to Chhattisgarh. He said the project would also generate employment, promote specialised education and contribute to knowledge-based economic development. 

The meeting also included discussions on infrastructure development and welfare initiatives being implemented in remote and security-sensitive regions, including Bastar. Shri Amit Shah appreciated the state's development efforts and assured continued support from the Centre for Chhattisgarh's welfare and growth initiatives.
