Agra Court sentences convict to life imprisonment in 2024 Ayurvedic doctor murder case

Agra: Nearly two years after an Ayurvedic doctor was allegedly killed at his clinic in Bateshwar, a court in Agra has sentenced the accused to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.
The verdict was pronounced by Additional District Judge Pawan Kumar Srivastava in a case registered at the Bah police station. During the trial, the prosecution examined 10 witnesses and submitted documentary and medical evidence, including the post-mortem report, to establish the sequence of events leading to the doctor's death, reports Amar Ujala.
According to the complaint lodged by a relative of the deceased, the ayurveda practitioner had been operating Sai Chikitsalaya in Bateshwar for nearly a decade and was well known for treating patients in the area. The accused had reportedly been staying with the doctor for around five years prior to the incident.
The incident took place late on the night of August 29, 2024. During the investigation, police found that the doctor had allegedly handed over Rs 400 to the accused to purchase liquor and snacks. However, a quarrel later broke out between the two. Police stated that both men were under the influence of alcohol when the argument escalated.
Police said the accused attacked the doctor with an iron pipe and a metal rod, striking him repeatedly on the head and causing grievous injuries. The victim later succumbed to the injuries sustained in the attack. Following the incident, the accused was arrested and sent to judicial custody after being produced before the court. Throughout the proceedings, the court examined witness testimonies and medical records before delivering its judgment.
