Ayurveda Practitioner booked
Pune: An ayurveda practitioner at a private hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad has been arrested by the Nigdi police for allegedly molesting a 37-year-old woman patient on the pretext of conducting a medical examination.
According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday while the woman was recovering in a hospital ward after undergoing surgery. The accused reportedly entered her room, claiming that he had come to examine her.
Police said the accused allegedly molested the woman during the visit. The patient later informed her relatives about the incident, who subsequently approached the Nigdi police station and lodged a complaint.
According to a Pune Mirror report, the 37-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital on June 8 for treatment related to a spinal condition. She underwent surgery on June 11 and was recovering in the hospital ward.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case and took the accused into custody on Monday after conducting preliminary inquiries. “We have registered a case and arrested the accused,” a police officer from the Nigdi police station said, reports TOI.
Investigators are now examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the practitioner gained access to the patient’s room and whether hospital protocols were followed.
The incident has brought renewed attention to patient safety and supervision in hospital wards, especially in cases involving patients recovering from surgery and dependent on medical personnel for care.
Police said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation as the case proceeds.
