Kochi: With Kerala Government approving Ayurveda treatment for Covid-19 patients falling under category B, Ayurveda doctors, who have already been treating category A patients in Ayurveda hospitals and Ayur Raksha clinics will now be able to treat category B patients as well.

In this regard, the State Health Secretary, Rajan Khobragade has issued an order that mentions that an action plan outlining approved Ayurveda strategies for preventing, mitigating, and rehabilitating Covid-19 has been updated to include category B Covid patients under isolation at home/common first-line treatment centre or district Covid care centres.

The order also specifies that severe patients with 'red flag signs' and the ones who fall under Category C exhibiting serious symptoms should not be treated with Ayurveda Medication.

This came following the recently passed guidelines of the Ayush Ministry mentioned in the national clinical management protocol based on Ayurveda and Yoga. The State Ayurveda Covid Response Cell (SACRC) was asked to submit its recommendations on the basis of which the new order has been issued by the State Health Department.

Further, the patient will have the right to decide the treatment of their choice by providing written consent. The respective medical institution would be responsible for providing treatment and the treating doctors would be responsible for the treatment management of patients, reports TOI.

Initially, only the covid-19 patients under category A were receiving treatment in the Ayurveda hospitals and the Ayur Raksha clinics. The category A patients have been receiving treatment under Bheshajam protocol for the treatment of mild Covid symptoms.

The doctors of the Ayush Department have established treatment in the Ayur Raksha clinics. At present, the main treatment methods include Sukhayushyam (preventive medicine for above 60), Amritham (quarantine patients), Bheshajam (Covid category A), and Punarjani (post-Covid health issues).
