Hyderabad: Emphasising that they have the right to be paid the same amount of stipend as the regular Unani students of Government Nizamia Tibbi College (GNTC), nearly 63 Unani House Surgeons, who were earlier transferred to GNTC from Al-Arif Unani Medical College, have written a letter the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court.

In the letter to the Chief Justice, the house surgeons have explained that the Health University had shifted 400 students of Al-Arif Unani Medical College to different colleges after the institution got unrecognized in 2019. The step was taken so that they could continue their studies unhampered. Among these transferred students, almost 63 students were shifted to GNTC. The Unani house surgeons have completed their final year in GNTC recently; however, the authorities refused to pay them the stipend, reports Deccan Chronicle.
Stating that the shifted Unani students have completed their education just like the regular students, the shifted house surgeons demanded stipend at par with what has been sanctioned for other regular students of the institute. Dr Shaikh Yaseen mentioned that they have also invested their time and money in the course and they efficiently and diligently worked for the institution; hence, they must not be discriminated against and should get the same stipend as other students of GNTC.
According to the daily, the doctor further added that though they were admitted to a government college, they paid the same amount as charged by a private college. Moreover, many junior doctors also contracted covid-19 but did not receive any support from either the hospital or the government. He also stated that they have approached several authorities including the Chief Minister, Principal Secretary (Medical and Health), Commissioner of Ayush, and the District Collector but all their appeals have allegedly gone to deaf ears as the authorities failed to take any action to fulfil their demands yet.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, (KNRUHS) Telangana State, Warangal had transferred 2017-2018 batch of BUMS students from Al Arif Unani College to Government Nizamia Tibbi College. The institution was de-recognized by the KNRUHS and the No Objection Certificate (essentiality certificate) of the institute had been withdrawn on directions from the Ministry of AYUSH after gross deficiencies were found at the institute in terms of faculty and infrastructure.
