After Dumka, Medical Colleges in Palamu, Hazaribagh get NMC nod for 100 MBBS seats each
Ranchi: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Jharkhand, the National Medical Commission(NMC) has finally given its nod for the MBBS courses at state-run medical colleges in Palamu and Hazaribagh.
The confirmation regarding this has come from the State Health Minister Banna Gupta on Wednesday morning, reports TOI.
Approval for these two medical colleges has been pending for quite some time. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that NMC had put the MBBS admission in 3 medical colleges in Jharkhand citing lack of necessary facilities at the establishments.
Stalling the MBBS admission at Palamu, Dumka, and Hazaribagh medical colleges in Jharkhand, NMC highlighted the deficit of faculty members, absence of libraries, and laboratory equipments.
Even last year also, these three medical colleges were barred by NMC for admitting students in the MBBS course and back then the Chief Minister Hemant Soren had written to NMC and requested the apex medical body to reconsider its decision. However, the commission hadn't budged and didn't allow fresh admission in the last session.
As per the latest media report by the Times of India, State Health Minister Banna Gupta has recently confirmed that NMC has approved the medical colleges in Palamu and Hazaribagh to admit students in MBBS courses in 100 MBBS seats.
Issuing a statement, Minister Gupta said, "Two medical colleges in the state have received permission to conduct admissions. I had urged Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya to the keep the future of Jharkhand's children in mind."
"The government will ensure quality education infrastructure in these two colleges. While we are providing necessary resources, associate professors are being hired on contractual basis to ensure that there are adequate teaching faculty members," added the Minister.
Previously, MoS Health Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar had informed the Parliament that there are a total of 8 medical colleges in Jharkhand with an intake capacity of 750 MBBS seats.
Now, with the nod for Dumka, Palamu and Hazaribagh medical colleges, the MBBS seat capacity in Jharkhand is going to increase further.
Besides, the first private medical college of the State, Laxmi Chandravanshi Medical College and Hospital (LCMCH) has also received approval from NMC for admitting students in 100 MBBS seats.
