BFUHS Issues Show-Cause Notice to MBBS Candidates for Providing False Info

This comes after the University while verifying and cross-checking the documents with other States found out that the candidates had applied in several other States contrary to their claims in the affidavits, adds The Tribune.

The University had asked the students to submit affidavits stating that they are not claiming the benefit of residence anywhere else in order to obstruct admissions which might lead to litigation over the issue of bona fide residence.

The medical seats are divided among the State quota and central quota seats and the states have separate eligibility criteria as well for protecting the rights of its actual residents for availing the state quota seats. Such mandatory criteria include mandatory period of schooling and fixed period of residence etc.

Bona fide domicile certificate certifies that a person is a resident of a particular place since they have transferred or stayed at a house at a particular address.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the University had asked the students and parents to submit affidavits stating that they were not claiming the benefit of residence anywhere else other than Punjab, except for central counseling.

This was done by the University in order to stop such admission, which lead to litigation later on. Previously, it was found that several candidates were applying for admission to MBBS course in the same year in several states like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, by availing the benefit of bona fide residents in more than one state.

This was resulting in multiple litigations because several students, actually belonging to other states were found to be availing the benefit in Punjab.

"That my child/ward has not applied and not claimed the benefit of residence elsewhere in any other State/UT for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses, Session 2021 in State Quota counseling except central counseling by MCC/DGHS," stated the affidavit that the students needed to submit.

In fact, issuing another notice on November 20, 2021, the University had highlighted that if any of the information submitted in the affidavit is found to be false or wrong, the admission of that particular candidate would be canceled.

However, when the University started the process of verification of the documents of those candidates and started cross-checking it with other neighboring states including Haryana, Rajasthan, Chandigarh and Delhi, the University discovered that many of the students had applied for admission in more than one State under the State Quota scheme.

Speaking to The Tribune regarding the matter, Dr. Raj Bahadur, the Vice-Chancellor of BFUHS said, "These candidates seem to have violated rules and furnished false information to the university in their affidavits. We have issued show-cause notices to many candidates."

"We warned the students regarding cancellation of their admission in case the information turns out to be false, but still some candidates are trying to mislead the university," he added.

The daily adds that the University has started conducting MBBS and BDS counselling in 22 medical and dental institutes. Although the University was set to announce the result of first-round of counselling with allotment of seats on January 31, it has now been postponed for an indefinite period.
