8 more medical colleges to come up in Haryana by 2025-26
Chandigarh: In a bid to boost medical education in the state, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar confirmed that 8 more medical colleges will come up soon in the state by the year 2025-26.
The announcement was made to strengthen the medical facilities in the state further. Adding to the confirmation, the minister also said work is underway to complete the project within the specified period.
In the last eight years, the number of medical colleges in Haryana has increased by two-fold. However, with the completion of these 8 more medical colleges, the total of these institutes will rise to 21.
According to the CM, the state government aims to establish a medical college in every district and so far seven new medical colleges have been set up in the past eight years.
Medical Dialogues team had previously reported about the announcement of setting up of a medical university, 16 new medical and 6 further nursing colleges in Haryana.
The state was in the process of setting up 9 medical colleges which include Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College at Bhiwani, Government Medical College at Jind, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College at Chhayansa, Faridabad, Government Medical College and Hospital at Koriyawas, Narnaul, Government Medical College at Kaithal, Sirsa and Yamunanagar, Gurugram.
This includes Government Medical College and Hospital and Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College Phase-II in Karnal. Besides this, AIIMS is also being built in Rewari, which will prove to be a milestone for the health facilities of Haryana.
The Chief Minister had announced the opening of 6 Nursing Colleges in Faridabad, Rewari, Kaithal, Kurukshetra and Panchkula, at Rs 194 crore. As per the announcement, 85 to 88 per cent of the work of these colleges being built in all these districts has been completed and they will be made functional soon.
On the other hand, the government is also aiming at increasing the number of MBBS seats in medical colleges of the State to 3035 by 2025 and the number of doctors from 13,000 to 28,000.
“We aim to increase the number of doctors from the present 13,000 to 28,000. With the establishment of new medical colleges, the state will get 2,650 doctors every year,” said Khattar while laying the foundation stone of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Charitable Hospital in Faridabad.
