Baramati Medical College renamed as Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar Govt College
Pune: In a major announcement, the Maharashtra government has taken an important decision to name the Government Medical College at Baramati as “Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar Government College, Baramati” and has also issued an ordinance in this regard.
The announcement was confirmed by Medical Education Minister Girish Mahajan after the state government issued a government order (GO) approving the name change of the medical college.

Government Medical College & General Hospital, Baramati (GMCB) is a medical college and affiliate hospital located in Baramati, Maharashtra, India. It was founded in the year 2019. The Government Medical College, Baramati is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.
Meanwhile, on January 3, 2013, government decision to start a government college with a capacity of 100 students and an attached 500-bed hospital at Baramati was approved. The admissions for the MBBS courses began for the first time in the year 2019 after the approval was given by the Medical Council of India in May 2019.
Currently, the Government Medical College, Baramati provides training to about 100 students in undergraduate medical courses.
The issue of naming this Baramati Medical College was under the consideration of the government, accordingly the government has taken an important decision to name this college as “Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar Government Medical College, Baramati”.
On behalf of the government, Minister Mahajan announced that the government approval in this regard was released yesterday in honor of Rajmata Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar's achievements, Pune Mirror reports.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also announced that the name of Ahmednagar district will be changed to Ahilyanagar to mark Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar’s contribution to Maharashtra. The announcement was made at a program organized on the occasion of the 298th birth anniversary of Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar at Chaundi, Jamkhed.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Revenue Minister and District Guardian Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, MP Sadashivrao Lokhande, MP Dr. Sujay Vikhe Patil, MLA Prof. Ram Shinde, MLA Monica Rajle, MLA Babanrao Pachpute, MLA Gopichand Padalkar, MLA Suresh Dhas, former MP Vikas Mahatme, former MLA Bhimrao Dhonde, Annasaheb Dange, Balasaheb Murkute, Laxmanrao Dhoble, Poptrao Gawde etc. were present.
