According to PTI report, two students have been suspended from classes for two months and expelled from the hostel and internship for the entire duration of their course. They have also been fined Rs 50,000 each and seven other senior students have been suspended from classes for one month and expelled from the hostel for three months.
The action comes in the backdrop of the complaint filed by an MBBS student who alleged that he was beaten with belts by the senior students.
Medical Dialogues recently reported that a student from the 2025 batch of Government Doon Medical College, who was allegedly assaulted, stated in a written complaint to the administration that since the incident, he has been mentally disturbed and living in fear. Juniors were allegedly beaten with belts.
In a written complaint submitted to the hostel warden on Jan 13, the student said the incident took place a day earlier. He named two seniors from the 2023 and 2024 batches, alleging that after thrashing him, the accused later accosted him inside the hostel, prompting him to report the matter formally.
"I am scared of retribution, and this left me shaken," the student stated in his complaint.
Furthermore, the complainant claimed he was taken outside the college premises, forced to trim his hair against his will and made to sleep outside, acts he described as "humiliating and coercive"
Now, the accused students have been suspended. Speaking to PTI, the officials informed, "Nine MBBS students at Dehradun's Doon Medical College were on Monday suspended and expelled from the hostel for allegedly ragging junior students... The action against the MBBS students of the 2023 and 2024 batches was taken based on the recommendations made in the inquiry report of the Anti-Ragging Committee."
The committee found them guilty of the incident of assault on two junior students in the college hostel on January 12.

The committee has submitted its inquiry report to the Principal of Doon Medical College, Dr. Geeta Jain.
Dr. Jain said that Doon Medical College is a ragging-free campus and ragging will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The state's Medical and Medical Education Minister, Dhan Singh Rawat, termed the incident as extremely unfortunate and said that he has instructed the college principal to investigate the incident and take such strict action that it sets an example for the future.
He said that incidents of ragging in educational institutions raise questions about institutional discipline and order, which will not be accepted.
