GMC Anantnag suspends 7 MBBS students for ragging
Srinagar: Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag has suspended seven MBBS students of the 2025 batch from the hostel and all academic activities following an incident of ragging reported at the college’s Boys Hostel.
In an order issued by the Principal, GMC Anantnag on October 3, 2026, disciplinary action was taken based on reports regarding an incident of ragging at the Boys Hostel, which were received by the college following an incident that took place during the intervening night of September 28 and 29, 2026.
Following this, the Anti-Ragging Committee of GMC Anantnag took cognisance of the matter and conducted a detailed and impartial inquiry into the allegations. The committee provided the concerned parties an opportunity to present their statements before submitting its findings to the Principal.

According to the findings of the committee, the involvement of the following seven students from the MBBS Batch 2025 was established.
Based on the findings and recommendations of the Anti-Ragging Committee, the Principal ordered that the seven students be suspended from the Boys Hostel and immediately evicted from their hostel accommodation until further orders. Along with this, the students have also been suspended from all academic activities with immediate effect and until further orders. This includes theory and practical classes, clinical postings and examinations.
Further, the order stated that the action was being taken to ensure a safe and secure environment for hostel residents.
Meanwhile, the college authorities have asked the parents/guardians of the aforementioned students to accompany them and appear before the Committee at GMC Anantnag on October 12, 2026, at 2:30 PM for further proceedings in the matter.
It further warned that failure to comply with the directions would result in further disciplinary action under the applicable National Medical Commission (NMC) Anti-Ragging Regulations and institutional statutes.
