Mirzapur's medical college MBBS students protest over power outage, water shortage, hostel issues
Mirzapur: A large group of MBBS students at Maa Vindhyavasini Autonomous State Medical College in Mirzapur held a sit-in protest on the college campus recently, alleging a lack of basic facilities, including electricity, water supply, proper hostel accommodation, and mess services.
Shouting slogans against the administration, the students alleged that electricity supply to both the college and hostels was disrupted from early morning. They alleged that despite the availability of generators on the campus, power was not restored. The prolonged outage left students struggling in extreme heat and humidity.
The power outage also affected water supply, causing problems with drinking water and other daily needs.
Apart from the electricity and water issues, the students also complained about hostel facilities. They alleged that three students were being accommodated in rooms that were not designed for that many occupants, making it difficult to study, rest, and manage basic personal needs.
They also expressed displeasure with the mess arrangements, stating that they were denied breakfast, forcing them to purchase food from outside, as per media report by Dainik Bhaskar.
The protesting students said they had informed the college administration several times about these problems but had received only assurances instead of concrete action. Frustrated over this, they decided to launch the protest.
They stated that their protests would continue until permanent solutions were found to problems such as electricity, water, hostels, mess, and library.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that hundreds of MBBS students of the Autonomous State Medical College in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, staged a late-night protest on Tuesday after the hostel reportedly remained without electricity and water supply for nearly 48 hours. The protest reportedly led Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak to direct the Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health Department, to ensure the immediate restoration of electricity and water supply in the hostel.
