NMC grants permission for additional 50 MBBS Seats at Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College
Raipur: The MBBS seat matrix in Chhattisgarh has increased further as the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted its permission for an additional 50 MBBS seats at Raipur-based Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College.
With the nod from the apex medical education regulatory body NMC for these additional medical seats, the college now has altogether 200 MBBS seats available for admission of medical aspirants from this academic session.
An official statement issued in this regard on Tuesday mentioned that the number of admissions in the undergraduate medical education has been increased from 150 to 200 from the academic session 2023-2024.
The apex medical commission has also granted approval for 30 additional seats for the students belonging to economically weaker section. There will now be altogether 50 seats, adds Daily Pioneer.
Raipur-based Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College is one of the oldest medical colleges in the State. This government medical college was founded on 9 September 1963 and the Medical Council of India (MCI) recognised it in 1969. The college offers admission in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses.
Along with the UG medical courses, the college also offers admissions to post graduate (MD/MS) and super-speciality (MCh) courses in three disciplines with an intake capacity of 150 seats.
As per the latest media report by Daily Pioneer, NMC has now granted permission to this medical college for an additional 50 seats in the undergraduate MBBS course.
NMC gave its permission after conducting an inspection of the faculty, infrastructure, hospital and other medical teaching requirements.
According to the data shared by the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar during a recent question hour held at Rajya Sabha, there are altogether 14 medical colleges in Chhattisgarh with an intake capacity for 1945 MBBS seats.
Among these 11 government medical colleges have altogether 1495 MBBS seats and there are another 450 MBBS seats at 3 private medical colleges.
