Orai: Seven MBBS students at Government Medical College, Orai have been suspended from academic classes, clinical duties and hostel accommodation for a week and fined Rs 1,000 each for allegedly ragging juniors.

The students belong to the 2025 MBBS batch and were captured in a video purportedly showing junior students being ragged, which went viral online on Saturday night.

As per the latest Jagran report, an investigation found that conversations related to the alleged ragging had taken place between senior and junior students through WhatsApp. Following this, the administration took action against the seven senior students based on the findings.

Along with this, a junior student has been warned for forwarding messages to fellow juniors on WhatsApp upon a senior's instruction. The student has been instructed not to engage in such activities and to report any ragging-related complaints to the college's anti-ragging cell immediately.

Following the incident, the college administration said junior students had been shifted to separate dormitories and security arrangements had been strengthened. Hostel wardens have also been instructed to conduct inspections.

Commenting on this, Principal Arvind Trivedi told Jagran, "A meeting of the Anti-Ragging Committee will be held on Monday. It will discuss further tightening of penalties for ragging. The college administration stated that a zero-tolerance policy is being adopted on campus and that violators will be prosecuted as per the rules."

Medical Dialogues had reported that while investigating allegations of ragging and assault of a second-year medical student, the college authorities at Government Medical College Haldwani questioned a total of 30 medical students at the institute. However, any assault or ragging of the medico was not confirmed by the preliminary investigation conducted by the anti-ragging committee of the college.
