Rewa: An alleged ragging incident has been reported from Shyam Shah Medical College in Rewa.

The situation escalated into a clash between seniors and juniors, leaving around six first-year students with head injuries.

According to a media report by Dainik Bhaskar, the clash happened at two different events on the same day. The violence reportedly began inside the undergraduate (UG) hostel, and later continued into the emergency department of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.

Initially, the ragging incident happened on Monday when senior students were allegedly harassing the first-year students in the hostel during the afternoon hours. In protest, the juniors objected to the ragging, following which the situation escalated into a clash.

During the altercation, the seniors are reported to have used sticks and belts and kicked the juniors inside the hostel. Following the alleged attack, at least six junior students are reported to have suffered head injuries.

The injured students were taken to the emergency ward of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for treatment.

Thereafter, the second clash took place in the evening on the same day when members of both groups allegedly came face to face again inside the hospital premises. This led to another violent confrontation inside the emergency ward. The students were reportedly seen chasing and assaulting each other in the presence of seriously ill patients and their relatives.

As per the local media report, the students chased each other and assaulted one another by kicking, punching and using sticks within the hospital premises.

The violence allegedly caused panic among critically ill patients and their relatives who were present in the emergency ward at the time of the incident. It also forced many patients and attendants to flee without completing treatment, according to eyewitnesses.

After receiving information about the incident, Dean of Shyam Shah Medical College, Dr Sunil Agrawal, reached the hospital. He listened to complaints from junior students and assured them that strict action would be taken against those found guilty.

Dainik Bhakar reported that Sanjay Gandhi Hospital CMO Dr Ishita Agrawal termed the violence inside hospital premises a serious matter and said action would be taken as per rules.
