Parts of Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts as well as Tuticorin and Kanyakumari districts were severely crippled during the COVID-19 pandemic and experienced severe oxygen deficit. There was an increase in the demand for oxygenated beds.

Hospital authorities said that it was a tight rope walk when oxygen availability in the hospital's tank depleted, reports TOI

Oxygen requirement of TVMCH was met by the oxygen plant of the sealed copper smelter Sterlite in Tuticorin and by ISRO Mahendragiri. Doctors said that the new plant at the hospital will ease the crisis and help manage the oxygen requirement in case of an emergency.
