2 Gurugram doctors arrested for alleged involvement in Rs 4 crore theft

Gurugram: Two Gurugram based doctors were arrested by the Special Task Force of the Haryana police on Wednesday night for alleged involvement in Rs 4 crore theft that took place in the maintenance office of a residential society in Sector 82.

The police stated that the theft took place on August 4 at sector 82 at the maintenance office. The issue came to the surface on August 20 when an employee of the maintenance company had gone there to collect the money in order to deposit it in the bank. The company got to know about the stolen money after going through the CCTV footage.

The theft was planned by the gangster Vikas Langharpuria who had sent eight of his men to steal the money. The arrested doctors allegedly helped them to carry out the theft by providing the details of the cash and its location to them. They used to work at a private hospital, reports Times of India.

Inspector of the STF, Gurugram unit, Varun Dahiya stated that they found out about the role of the doctor during their investigation since the gangster's aide was in contact with them. He told the daily, "Someone from the maintenance company of the society where the theft took place was in touch with the doctor who shared the details of the money with a close aide of Langharpuria, who is currently in hiding and operating his gang to carry out thefts, robbery, loot, and extortions."

The inspector said that they are still searching several areas and the police were able to recover the cash, jewellery, and the share of the stolen money given to the doctors. Saying that the doctors revealed important information, he added, "The doctors revealed crucial information which can help us arrest more people in this case. It is too early to disclose the information but this is one of the biggest heists planned by the gang."

The company, Alpha Corp Management Service Private Limited which is managing the residential project, Gurgaon One Project in Sector 84 first made a complaint after which a case was registered at Kherki Daula police station on August 21.

An official of the company told the Hindustan Times, "We collected money from customers for the services rendered to them and kept them at the office of the project. On August 20, we found that money had been stolen from our office." The developer also submitted a complaint with the Director-General of Police.

Initially, a case was registered under Section 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code. The case was eventually handed over to the STF.

The police stated that a case has been registered against the two doctors under sections 380 (theft), 381 theft by clerk or servant), 454 (house trespass), 457 (housebreaking), and 120 B (conspiracy) of the IPC on Wednesday night.

The inspector Dahiya added, "We have taken the two doctors in police custody for three days and are trying to get more details about the case and their connection with the gangster."

The police had earlier mentioned that the accused took around Rs 50 lakh from the maintenance office, which later was estimated to be around Rs 4 crore. The assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Delhi Police's special cell was arrested in connection with the theft on October 9. The ASI was given his share of Rs 15 lakh of the stolen money who had helped the gang to carry out the theft.

The ASI and the gangster Langharpuria were childhood friends who came from the same village in the Badli area of Haryana. The crime unit of the Gurugram police had arrested him while he was undergoing a course at the police training centre after his recent promotion.

The assistant commissioner of police (crime), Preet Pal Sangwan said that around six people have been arrested in the theft case, including the two doctors and the ASI.

The police had earlier arrested three members of Langharpuria's gang who were identified as Dhare, Amit alias Mite (both from Najafgarh in Delhi), and Abhinav from Uttar Pradesh after going through the CCTV footage. The police mentioned that around 30 cases are registered against Dhare, 10 cases against Amit, and two against Abhinav. The three told the police that Langharpuria gave them orders to commit the theft by providing them with the details of the place where the money was stored.

The police came to know about the involvement of the two doctors in the theft after they interrogated the ASI and the three members of the gang.
